Located in the Theology and Ministry Library on Boston College’s Brighton Campus, the Catholic Religious Archives collects, processes, preserves, and makes accessible institutional records of enduring historical significance belonging to men’s and women’s Catholic religious orders and congregations in the United States and Canada.
The Archives are currently closed to researchers. Please check back soon for updates and announcements. Acquisitions are ongoing, and the Archives expects to grow exponentially over the coming years. If you are interested in depositing materials or donating to the Archives, please contact us.
CRA HISTORY
The Catholic Religious Archives (CRA) was established as a result of the “Envisioning the Future of Catholic Religious Archives” conference sponsored by and held at Boston College in July 2018. The conference gathered leaders of religious communities, archivists, and historians together to seek and identify solutions to the issues that religious communities face in preserving and providing access to their archival legacies. The paper “Preserving the Past, Building for the Future” (booked version) was produced following the conference. Speaker videos, original conference text, and blog posts are still available.
